Attune Centre: biodynamic craniosacral therapy

ATTUNE CENTRE is a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) clinic. BCST is a gentle but profound, non-invasive therapy which is therapeutic for injury, stress and many health issues. It can calm the nervous system after physical or mental trauma and improve general health and well-being. Through the study of anatomy and physiology and hundreds of hours of clinical experience, a practitioner has learnt to sense the many intricacies of the human body. BCST/CRANIO CAN BE USEFUL FOR THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: • Relieving pain • Headaches • Stress & tension related problems • Chronic neck & back pain • Anxiety/low mood • Hormone imbalance • Chronic fatigue • Sciatica • Birth trauma (mother and baby) • And any conditions where stress on the nervous system has impacted health. DURING A SESSION YOU MAY NOTICE: • a greater sense of relaxation • hot and cold areas • twitches and twinges, fluctuations as areas release • emotional releases • physical releases as the body self adjusts • dream state sensation • and an infinite number of other body sensations A BIT ABOUT CRANIO/BCST: We can only practice cranio or BCST with an understanding and knowledge of anatomy and physiology and with a great respect and deep sense of the immense intelligence of the body. A biodynamic craniosacral therapist learns the craft of sensing the body’s life force and its subtle expressions, to observe and understand the rhythmical fluctuations, whilst orientating to the body’s innate health. It is this compassionate and intelligent holding of space which helps a client’s body remember and express its own health. It is said that the body always has the option for health, but also needs the opportunity. Self-care is an opportunity to support your own health. Part of the magic of BCST, is that it ultimately calms the nervous system and therefore, calms the fight-flight or freeze response. When the body contracts under stress, which it does to protect itself from perceived ‘danger’, the body expresses this lack of flow as tension, dis-ease, lack of ease. A BCST practitioner can therefore help with a myriad of health issues. I have had personal experience of BCST giving clients relief from headaches, neck pain, hormone imbalance, anxiety, low mood, aches and pains, newborn issues and generally assisting in a client's well-being. Contraction or holding is the instinctual way the body protects itself from further or anticipated trauma. Essentially any area of the body where there has been contraction due to anything from overwork, overwhelm through to physical or mental trauma, has the potential to be supported back to health. BCST can help the body to create space and flow in areas where the movement of fluids has previously been restricted. I look forward to supporting my clients on their road to improved health. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: HOW DID BCST COME ABOUT AND HOW DOES IT WORK? A: BCST has its roots in osteopathy. In the 1930s osteopath Dr William Garner Sutherland made subtle discoveries whilst working with his osteopathic clients. Sutherland noticed with his work, that the body has a ‘breath of life’. This breath of life is what makes new cells regenerate, creates ebbs and flows in the body and is where that feeling of innate health emanates from. Sutherland understood the potent quality of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that flows and flushes the brain’s ventricles, potentising the body’s tissues and cells. And practitioners learn to study and assist its free-flow through their study of anatomy and physiology and clinical practice. Humans thrive on person to person contact, and it is this specialised trained contact that is the secret ingredient. Q: WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION? A: For your first appointment, your practitioner will ask you about your health history and current state of health. The client lies fully clothed on a massage table, or if more comfortable, sits on a chair. The practitioner will adopt gentle hand holds at various key points on a client's body. Contact is gentle, with hands usually starting under the ankles, and moving to different positions about the body, depending on what the body is showing. Contact is negotiated. Initial sessions will be an hour and a quarter, with any follow up sessions usually lasting up to 60 minutes. Q: WHAT MIGHT I NOTICE IN A SESSION? A: During a session, depending on your body awareness, you will usually notice a deep sense of relaxation, you may feel various sensations in your body as its tensions and restrictions release, you may get a sense of the different shapes in your body (eg one side or part of the body may feel bigger or smaller), you may feel flashes of cold or warm, you may become more aware of flow in your body, or have a fleeting niggle as things adjust. Your body is an amazing hydraulic system of mostly fluids. Even each bone has a natural movement used to assist this hydraulic system. You may notice some of these movements more as your body frees up and as you relax. As your body starts to feel safer, it lets go of holding patterns. But don’t worry if you don’t notice much either. Being aware of your body is a learned art, and many people have to relearn to notice what their body is feeling. Often not feeling so much is a protective measure. Your brain LOVES to know how and where your body is and if it doesn’t know, it can sometimes get its wires crossed. Check out this link for some super interesting information on pain and the brain https://www.tamethebeast.org/#tame-the-beast. Being fully embodied and aware of where our body finishes and starts and how it feels, is a way to experience full embodiment and optimum health. Q: HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED? A: This really depends on the client and what is going on with their health and in their life. Some clients may find one session will clear their problem. Although, generally I find that most people benefit ideally from 2-3 sessions in weekly succession. This allows the body to let go of areas of holding in stages. The body can get in a pattern of holding, so for more chronic issues, the body may take a little longer to adjust. And then sometimes, people return for a body ‘tune-up’ when they feel the need for some well-being assistance. Q: WHAT ABOUT AFTER MY SESSION? WHAT WILL I FEEL LIKE AFTERWARDS? A: The general rule of thumb is to give your body at least 3 days to process the session, so it is recommended you take it easy for a few days after your appointment. Each session will no doubt be a different experience, depending on how you are on the day. Afterwards, it can be that you have renewed vigour, so avoid the temptation to use up your new energy cleaning your windows or your car! Rather, rest up so this potency can be used to heal. Sometimes you may feel more emotional than normal. With the body releasing tension and relaxing and expanding, it is important you keep your fluids up and drink plenty of water. This helps flush out any toxins released from areas newly released, and helps to avoid getting detox headaches. Q: WHAT CAN I EXPECT LONG TERM? A: BCST can make you feel more relaxed in your day to day life as you become calmer and more present in your body. It can feel easier to make better, more positive decisions in your life. Health will improve as your nervous system settles and you pay more attention to your self-care and life balance. BCST can help you to feel less ‘in your head’ and more in your whole body. It is a powerful feeling. For some clients this process comes naturally, and for others, this process of release can be like peeling an onion, one layer at a time, while you learn to have a healthier relationship with your body. TL "I was having issues with my neck, unable to turn it far to the right. I had a few craniosacral sessions with Tina and found she was getting to the bottom of the issue, I am now pain free and back to normal thanks to Tina." Mark, another happy customer “I went to see Tina with my 3 month old baby, who would always face his head to the right. We had a careful, wonderful, loving and calm session with her, the bubba enjoyed it very much and relaxed during the session. After a couple of days I could see the difference already, his neck was less tense, he slept better and also fed better, which was a huge relief not just for him but also for me. Thank you Tina” Fran & Jacob
